About Birthworkers

A birthworker is a trained professional who offers physical and emotional support during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. While doulas do not provide medical care, they serve as advocates and educators, ensuring families are informed and supported.

Why Birthworkers?

BIPOC childbearing individuals face disproportionately high rates of poor birth outcomes. Birthworker support has been shown to be an effective remedy. By training and employing BIPOC birth workers, HHBC addresses these disparities head-on, providing crucial support to those who need it most.

Impacting Birth Outcomes

Our birthworkers are not only skilled attendants but also healthcare navigators. They help clients access essential resources and support services, ensuring healthy pregnancies and births.

We aim to eliminate birth outcome disparities among childbearing people of color, reduce maternal morbidity and mortality, and enhance birth outcomes for both childbearing individuals and their infants. We are dedicated to increasing the number of birth workers of color to serve and support these communities. Through comprehensive, affordable education and training opportunities, we empower birth workers to pursue their passion while earning a living wage.
